COVID-19 – Update on Town Council Services

Beccles Friday Market

In line with Government guidelines, the Beccles Friday Market will continue to operate, with only stalls selling essential items attending.

The decision has been made for the Town Council staff to work from home as much as possible, to comply with the Government’s latest advice for everybody to stay at home.

The office will still be staffed on an ad hoc basis to deal with urgent matters, and so a message can still be left on the Town Hall number 01502 712109 and we will respond as soon as we can.

Based on recent Government advice regarding the precautions that need to be taken in respect of the Coronavirus, the decision has been made to close the Beccles Town Council office until further notice.

The council sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this causes.

The council staff will still be working in the office and can be contacted as usual by telephone on 01502 712109 or by email  All council and committee meetings have been cancelled until further notice.  A delegated decision making process has been put in place for any urgent decisions that need to be made and all day to day issues will continue to be dealt with by council staff.  Planning applications will still be considered under delegated authority and the public will be notified as to when they need to submit their comments in order for these to be taken into account by Beccles Town Council – click on planning applications for more information.

Please note that no cash payments can be taken during this period.  Cheque and BACS can be used as alternative methods of payments.

Blyburgate Hall

Given that the majority of regular user groups have now cancelled classes over the next few weeks, the decision has been taken to close Blyburgate Hall until further notice.

Beccles Bell Tower

Easter Bank Holiday opening to the public for the Bell Tower tours will now not take place.  The Bell Tower will remain closed until further notice.

Friday Market

For the time being, the Friday Market will carry on as normal.

District and County Councillors are working together to assist those that have been advised to self-isolate.  Leaflets will soon be posted through every letter box in Beccles.
